Renowned Violinist Itzhak Perlman Visits Daytona Beach

for First-Ever DBIF Special Event

In its first-ever special event concert performance, the Daytona Beach International Festival (DBIF) will feature the world-renowned Itzhak Perlman, widely considered the greatest violinist alive.Perlman will perform on Thursday, April 3 at the Peabody Auditorium (600 Auditorium Boulevard) in Daytona Beach, Fla., starting at 7:30 p.m.Showcasing his timeless abilities, Perlman will be joined by pianist Rohan De Silva, for a remarkable performance certain to astound the audience.


With flawless technique, Perlman has achieved superstar status as the reigning virtuoso of the violin. A native of Tel Aviv, he was thrust onto the international stage in 1958 with an appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. He has performed with every major orchestra, in recitals, and at festivals throughout the world, including a number of performances at the Florida International Festival in Daytona Beach.


Throughout his illustrious career, Perlman has earned a reputation for perfection, and a substantial collection of honors.He has been presented with four Emmy Awards, 15 GRAMMY Awards, and has collaborated with artists such as Isaac Stern, the Juilliard String Quartet, and guitarist John Williams.Newsweek featured Perlman in a cover story in April 1980, and President Clinton awarded him with a 'National Medal of Arts' in December 2000.In 2003, Perlman received a Kennedy Center Honor celebrating his distinguished achievements. In May 2005, he was awarded an honorary doctorate and a centennial medal at Juilliard's 100th commencement ceremony. Perlman also collaborated with renowned composer John Williams for the violin solos in the film 'Schindler's List.'


Perlman will be joined in Daytona Beach by Rohan De Silva, an acclaimed pianist who has performed with many violin virtuosos.De Silva performs frequently with Perlman, both nationally and internationally, and is a faculty memberat the Perlman Music Program on Long Island, The Juilliard School and the Ishikawa Music Academy in Japan. He has recorded for Deutsche Grammophon, CBS/SONY Classical, Collins Classics in London, and RCA Victor.


Single tickets to the DBIF Special Event are $75, $65, $52, and $42.Individuals can 'Support the Festival' by purchasing a special ticket, which includes a seat in the Central Section of the Orchestra level and a receipt for tax deduction.
